Seen in the motion picture, "Madea’s Big Happy Family" as the choir soloist, Sister Laura, and you probably recognize her as the singer in the nightclub "Chandra’s" in the #1 box office movie, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" and as "Shirley" in Tyler Perry’s "Madea’s Big Happy Family", the stage play. She also played Loretta in Kandi Burruss's (The Real Housewives of Atlanta) "A Mother's Love" and is the former lead singer for the legendary recording group, the S.O.S. Band, replacing the original lead singer. She continued the band’s string of Top Twenty Billboard hits with the CD’s "Diamonds In The Raw", and "One Of Many Nights", where she wrote several songs, including the single "Broken Promises".

Tyler Perry is expanding his partnership with BET Network with two new series, “Bruh” and “Ruthless” for the network’s streaming service, BET PlusVariety has learned exclusively.
“I’m so grateful for the millions of fans who have been watching the new shows on BET. And this is only the beginning. I’m excited to bring these two new dynamic series to the BET Plus family and continue to tell stories of high stakes drama with emerging talent,” Perry said in a statement.
The first series to complete production, “Tyler Perry’s Bruh” will chronicle the lives of a group of 30-something Black men as they explore the world of dating, careers and friendship in a present-day society. Additionally, viewers can expect the show to tackle some of the stereotypes faced by African American men. Barry Brewer (“Games People Play”), Mahdi Cocci (“The Gifted”), Phillip Mullings Jr. (“American Soul”), Monti Washington (“Games People Play”), Chandra Currelley (“Madea’s Big Happy Family”), Candice Renee (“BODIED”), and Alyssa Goss (“The Bobby Brown Story”) will star in the half-hour program.
“Tyler Perry’s Ruthless,” a spinoff of “The Oval,” follows Ruth Truesdale (Melissa L. Williams) as she’s forced to play nice with a scandalous religious cult of powerful sex crazed fanatics in the hopes of freeing herself and her daughter. Several actors seen in his other works make up the show’s cast, including Stephanie Charles (“The Paynes”), Anthony Bless (“Tyler Perry’s Sistas”) and Bobbi Baker James (“House of Payne”). They’re joined by Matt Cedeno (“Power”), Lenny Thomas (“The Blacklist”), Yvonne Senat Jones (“The Bobby Brown Story”), Baadja-Lyne Odums (“This Is Us”), Jaime Callica (“Unreal”), Nirine S. Brown (“Wicked: The Musical”), Blue Kimble (“Being Mary Jane”) and Herve Clermont (“One Life To Live”).
Both series are scheduled for 2020 premieres. Perry will write, direct and executive produce alongside Michelle Sneed for Tyler Perry Studios.
This partnership expansion comes on the heels of two new series from Perry on BET’s linear network. “The Oval” and “Sistas” premiered Oct. 23 and have been delivering 3.3 million viewers per night. “The Oval” is currently ranked as the No. 1 new scripted series for general market.
“Our landmark partnership with Tyler Perry has delivered beyond our expectations,” said Scott Mills, president of BET Networks. “Our streaming service is a natural extension of BET’s linear network, and Tyler Perry is the perfect partner. The combination of new, original shows and his robust library of popular movies, series, and stage plays that Tyler brings to our joint venture strengthens our position in the streaming landscape and drives subscriber growth, viewership and retention.”

As they continue their 40th Anniversary Celebration this fall, Fulton County Arts & Culture is presenting a fabulous photography collection and inviting Fulton County families to pose for their very own portraits. From October 30 through November 14, visitors to the Southwest Arts Center Gallery will enjoy an exhibition of striking photos by renowned photographer Thomas Dorsey entitled Family: Pride, Dignity and Togetherness featuring notable Atlanta families including those of Andrew Young, Hank Aaron, Ed Spriggs and Marvin Arrington, Sr. In association with the Dorsey exhibition, during October and November, families from Fulton County can participate in Fulton Families Photo Days at six events across the county. Admission is free for the Dorsey exhibition and the photos events.
“We believe the arts are essential to the social, spiritual, and intellectual health of our communities,” states Lionell Thomas, Director of Fulton County Arts & Culture.  “We’re honoring the legacy of renowned family portrait photographer Thomas Dorsey with an exhibition of his work, and we are celebrating the beauty and diversity of our own Fulton County family by inviting residents to have their portrait taken. We hope they enjoy the art and come celebrate with us!”

Thomas Dorsey exhibition Family: Pride, Dignity and Togetherness

There will be an Opening Reception on Wednesday, October 30 from 6-9 pm, and the exhibition will be on view through November 14 at the gallery at Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road SW, Atlanta, GA 30331. The gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission to the exhibition is free.

Thomas Dorsey was born in Augusta, GA, but grew up in Chicago, IL. After a four-year stint in the Air Force, he worked at the Post Office for a decade. Then he became interested in art and pursued a degree in Fine Art from the Art Institute of Chicago. He fell in love with photography which led him to start a business with his wife centered on family portraiture. During the next 32 years he made a name for himself beginning in Chicago, and then in Atlanta, by taking photos of families in their homes. The Family: Pride, Dignity and Togetherness exhibition showcases selected photos of prominent African American families from Fulton County and Chicago taken between 1978 and 2002.
“I cannot say how one should view these images, but the title reflects the positive potential of the human spirit I saw every time I was given the opportunity to trip the shutter!” - Thomas Dorsey
